Stargazing in Suffolk!

Stargazing at St. Peter's Hall and Brewery at South Elmham, near Bungay.

With huge thanks to Jill from St. Peter's Hall, for fabulous hospitality, 8 of the Norwich Astronomical Society crew put on a superb outreach event on Saturday 21st September.

Astrophotographer Shaun Reynolds gave his talk "Gems of the Suffolk Skies" to 50 people who afterwards were treated to views through telescopes and an imaging set up belonging to Jason Durrant.

Targets seen were the brighter deep space objects including; the Andromeda Galaxy, Bode’s, The Whirlpool Galaxy, The Dumbell and Ring Nebulae, and towards the end of the evening the Veil in Tatyana’s dob too.

We capped the numbers at 50, for this our first event, but have been asked to return in the Spring and make the September event a yearly one. A tiring evening by the time we had finished and packed up our telescopes, but very worthwhile, enjoyed by all, and the Stormtrooper Lightspeed Pilsner highly recommended!

Thanks to the NAS crew who gave up their Saturday evening, much appreciated.

Photo thanks to Jason Durrant
