Dr. Anna Hourihane's visit to Seething Observatory
We were delighted to host Dr. Anna Hourihane
from the Institure of Astronomy at Cambridge on Friday 22nd of January. We learnt more about the Gaia satellite and the mission to create to three-dimensional map of the Milky Way.
The Gaia satellite will map about one billion stars in our Galaxy and throughout the Local Group, which is approximately 1 per cent of the Galactic stellar population!
It was a fascinating talk, with lots of questions at the end. Dr.Anna has kindly agreed to visit us again at Seething in a year or so when more data has been released, with an updated version of the talk.
