Black Holes: Imaging the Invisible. Friday (31st Jan 2020)

Start time: 20:00

Location: Seething Observatory

Host: Chris Greenfield

Black Holes are just that, a black hole in space. So how do you go about taking a picture of one?

We know there is something there, and we know it is incredibly massive. These stars orbiting it are not small, they are giants.

But compared to the object they are orbit, they are little more than specks of dust. As massive as this object is, it is invisible.

Find out what scientists did to try to image this and other super massive black holes.

The first talk, starting at 8pm has now sold out, so tickets for the second talk, starting at 9pm are available on the link below. You are of course very welcome to arrive earlier to enjoy the views and talk to our friendly volunteers.
