Group Visits

The NAS offers group visits to any group of children or adults within travelling distance of our observatory at Seething. These visits are conducted by volunteers from our membership, many of whom also lecture at our public open nights.

Groups up to 50 can be accommodated in a single sitting, for larger groups we can split into two's with one half in the telescope domes and the other having the talk then swap over.
Although we are very flexible as to time and content of our group visits, we normally start the evening at 7:30 with an introduction. This is followed by a 30-40 minute slideshow / talk in the clubhouse / lecture hall. After questions and tea and biscuits, we conduct a tour of the site and telescope domes. If the sky is clear and dark we will open the domes and show you views of the night sky through the telescopes.

If you would like more information or would like to book a visit please contact Roger Preece - details on Contact Us page.

Child Protection Policy

The NAS has put in place a child protection policy for the protection of all children visiting the site and of those members conducting group visits.

If your group includes children, it is essential that you have a sufficient number of adults to supervise them while on site. When bringing children to the observatory or society events, the parent or guardian of that child has sole responsibility for their welfare and behaviour. This includes ensuring that the child is not left unattended or unobserved in order to protect both the child and other members of the society.

The society and its members have significant amounts of delicate optical equipment that is often used on site. Children must be kept under control around or near this equipment to ensure that they do not get hurt and that the equipment does not get damaged. Children must not be allowed to go into the observatory buildings unattended by a parent or guardian.

We hold a number of special public events with talks, tour, and look through our telescopes!
